Tips + My Regime for Healthy and Thick Hair


I’ve been asked many times about how I maintain my long hair so I though that this post will provide some tips and recommendations on what’s good for the growth of your hair that I personally follow. So follow along the steps and comment below if you got any questions!

1. Oil up the hair real good

I’ve been a true fan to Ogx Argan oil for a really long time and I massage my scalp and hair with it at least once every week. I remember my mother applying Organic Coconut Oil to my hair and braiding it which was a regime we followed every single day when I was a kid. Since I hate going out with oil applied to my hair now, I apply oil a night before my hair wash day, leaving it overnight. This routine helps my hair to get  moisturized and allows it to grow healthy and thick.

Tip 1: Heat the oil in a small bowl for 30 sec before applying it to your hair. This lightens the consistency of the oil and makes it easier to apply.

Tips 2: Oil might leave stains on your pillowcases. Use some old pillowcases when sleeping in with oil in your hair.

Below are some of recommendations for oils from Ogx that I’ve tried over the past few years:

2. Use a good Shampoo + Conditioner

I’ve been using OGX Shampoos and Conditioners from the past 3 years and they help in locking the moisture in my hair. I’m obsessed with how my hair looks and smells after using the Ogx Coconut Shampoo and Ogx Coconut Conditioner. It has Coconut Milk, Coconut Oil and Whipped Egg White Proteins which combined adds strength and hydration to your hair. I’ve also used Ogx Keratin Shampoo and Ogx Keratin Conditioner which have Keratin proteins and Argan Oil. This combination helps avoids breakage of hair.

Most of the Ogx products are also Sulphate free which adds a bonus point in my books! Also, all the Ogx products have environmental earth friendly packaging – another bonus point!

Tip 1: Wet hair is more receptive to damage and breaks easily. So either use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove tangles.

Tip 2: Towels damage the cuticle of your hair. I like to use cotton towels and blot my hair instead of rubbing it against the towel.

3. Hair Masks

A good hair mask can add extra strength and nourishment to your hair. Knowing the condition and concerns of your hair and treating it with the right hair mask will give you some amazing results. I personally use Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask because it has Argan Oil, which is good for new hair growth and also helps to grow thick and healthy looking hair.

4. Serum’s help me tame my hair

My hair gets frizzy after a hair wash and nothing can tame it unless a serum is used. I’ve been using Ogx Coconut Oil serum and Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Serum from the past 5 years to set my hair after the hair wash.

5. Don’t use excessive heat on your Hair

Wait till your hair completely dries before straightening or curling it! I try to avoid using Heating tools on my hair most of the time but sometimes when I’m rushing to step out of the house, I try to use low heat to dry up hair.

If you’re a constant user of heating tools then a good hair protectant spray will definitely help your hair from getting damaged.

6. Food intake effects Hair growth too

  1. Eggs are a good source of Protein and Biotin. Both of these promote hair growth since the hair follicles are made up of Protein.
  2. Red Meat is rich in Iron, that is easy to be absorb and helps the red blood cells to deliver oxygen to all the cells of your body, including hair follicles.
  3. Oysters are good source of Zinc, which supports the growth of hair and repair.
  4. Avocados and Nuts are a rich source of Vitamin E and a variety of nutrients that promote hair growth.
  5. Spinach has Vitamin A that helps your body to produce Sebum – which keeps yours scalp and hair moisturized.
